During long term operation of a water ring vacuum pump, rust, sand, scale, and particle impurities in the working liquid can easily enter the pump chamber. If they are not cleaned in time, the clearance between the impeller and pump body will become smaller, and in severe cases the pump may become completely stuck.
After startup, the motor only makes a humming sound but does not rotate.
Manual turning is extremely difficult.
There are friction noises inside the pump body.
The operating current suddenly increases.
Open the pump cover and inspect the inside.
Clean scale and foreign objects.
Check whether the impeller is deformed.
Readjust the impeller clearance.
Bearings are important supporting components of a water ring vacuum pump. If lubrication is insufficient, the pump operates at high temperature for a long time, or water enters the bearing housing, the bearings may wear out and eventually seize.
Insufficient lubricating grease.
Bearing aging and wear.
Water entering the bearing housing.
Continuous operation at high temperature.
The pump cannot be manually rotated before startup.
Bearing temperature becomes excessively high.
Sharp abnormal noises occur during operation.
The motor overheats significantly.
Replace damaged bearings.
Inspect the lubrication system.
Clean the bearing housing.
Refill with lubricating grease.
Sometimes the issue is not caused by the water ring vacuum pump itself, but by the motor. Motor failure can prevent the equipment from starting normally.
Motor bearing seizure.
Burned motor windings.
Rotor rubbing against the stator.
Damaged capacitor in a single phase motor.
Disconnect the coupling to separate the motor from the pump.
If the motor can rotate normally by itself, the problem is in the pump.
If the motor still cannot rotate, the motor itself is faulty.
If the equipment experiences long term vibration or improper alignment during installation, friction between the impeller and the pump body can occur, which may eventually cause seizure.
Coupling misalignment.
Bent shaft.
Worn shaft sleeve.
Long term vibration displacement.
Metal friction noise during rotation.
Certain positions feel especially tight.
Operating current rises significantly.
Realign the coupling.
Check whether the shaft is bent.
Adjust the impeller position.
Replace worn parts.
Some water ring vacuum pumps use mechanical seal structures. If the pump runs without sufficient water for a long time or the seal ages, the shaft may fail to rotate normally.
Seal face sintering.
Spring seizure.
Seal ring swelling and aging.
Inspect the mechanical seal.
Replace seal components.
Check the cooling water system.
After long term shutdown, internal rust can form due to humid environments. Residual working liquid may also create scale deposits, eventually causing the impeller to stick.
The equipment cannot start after long term shutdown.
Manual rotation feels stuck.
Rust traces are visible inside.
Rotate the shaft manually and slowly.
Add lubricating oil or rust remover.
Disassemble and clean the pump if necessary.
A water ring vacuum pump relies on working liquid to form the water ring. If the working liquid condition is abnormal, startup problems may occur.
Excessive working liquid.
Frozen working liquid.
Too many impurities in the liquid.
Liquid not drained for a long time.
Check the working liquid level.
Replace the working liquid in time.
Apply antifreeze measures during winter.
Clean impurities from the liquid.
First disconnect the power supply to ensure safety.
Manually rotate the shaft to check resistance.
Disconnect the coupling to determine whether the issue is in the motor or pump.
Inspect bearing temperature and abnormal noises.
Open the pump cover and inspect the inside.
Check whether the working liquid is normal.
Inspect for rust and scale buildup inside the pump.
When a water ring vacuum pump motor does not turn and feels stuck, the problem is usually related to internal scaling, bearing seizure, motor failure, impeller friction, mechanical seal seizure, or internal rust caused by long term shutdown. Among these issues, internal scaling and bearing damage are the most common causes in industrial applications. Regular maintenance and inspection can effectively reduce equipment downtime.
