Multistage centrifugal blowers are widely used in wastewater treatment, industrial aeration, pneumatic conveying, material transportation, and other systems. Since the startup process involves multiple parameters, including the inlet valve, outlet valve, vent valve, and motor operating current, properly following the startup procedure is important for ensuring smooth blower operation, reducing the risk of surge, and preventing motor overload.

During actual operation, the equipment manufacturer's operating manual, site process requirements, and safety procedures should always be followed. The following procedure is intended to help operators quickly understand the basic startup steps for a multistage centrifugal blower.

Preparations Before Starting the Multistage Centrifugal Blower

Check the Equipment and System Conditions

Before starting the blower, complete all required pre-start inspections according to the equipment operating manual. Confirm that the blower, motor, lubrication system, cooling system, and related instruments are in normal condition. At the same time, check whether the pipelines, valves, and electrical systems meet the startup requirements.

After confirming that the equipment is ready for operation, close the blower inlet valve and outlet valve, and open the vent valve to approximately 50% of its full opening. The actual valve positions should be determined according to the specific equipment model and site process requirements.

Check the Startup Parameters

Before startup, pay attention to the motor rated current, blower rated pressure, and the condition of instruments such as pressure gauges and ammeters. Operators should be familiar with the normal operating range of the equipment so that they can quickly determine whether the blower is operating normally after startup.

Start the Motor and Open the Inlet Valve

After completing the startup preparations, start the blower motor. After confirming that the motor has started normally and that there are no abnormal sounds or excessive vibrations, fully open the blower inlet valve.

Then, quickly adjust the vent valve according to the blower operating condition until the blower reaches its rated pressure or the motor rated current range. At this point, the blower enters normal operation. The operator should continue monitoring pressure, current, vibration, noise, and other operating parameters.

Adjust the Vent Valve Promptly if Surge Occurs

If surge occurs during startup, quickly increase the opening of the vent valve so that part of the gas can be released through the vent line, helping improve the operating condition of the blower. During adjustment, closely monitor changes in current and pressure.

If the motor experiences overcurrent and trips during startup, identify the relevant cause first. When restarting, appropriately reduce the vent valve opening during the initial startup stage and repeat the startup procedure. The actual adjustment should be based on the equipment's operating condition.

System Connection Procedure for the Multistage Centrifugal Blower

Fully Open the Outlet Valve and Close the Vent Valve

After the blower is running normally and its operating parameters have become relatively stable, the blower can be connected to the system. First, quickly fully open the blower outlet valve to connect the blower with the system pipeline. Then, quickly close the vent valve so that the blower officially enters system operation.

During this process, closely monitor the blower pressure, motor current, vibration, and operating noise to ensure that the equipment remains within its normal operating range.

Pay Attention to Surge During System Connection

If surge occurs while the blower is being connected to the system, immediately open or increase the opening of the vent valve to eliminate the surge while ensuring that the motor current does not exceed the permitted range. After the blower returns to stable operation, identify the cause of the surge before attempting the system connection again.

If the surge cannot be eliminated, stop the blower immediately and inspect the equipment to avoid prolonged operation under surge conditions and reduce the risk of equipment damage.

Handling Overcurrent Conditions

Gradually Adjust the Outlet and Vent Valves

If the blower trips due to overcurrent during system connection, repeat the preparation and startup procedures. When repeating the system connection procedure, the outlet valve can first be opened gradually until the motor current reaches a relatively high level without causing a trip. Then, slightly close the vent valve to keep the motor current within the rated range.

Next, gradually open the outlet valve while gradually closing the vent valve. By repeatedly adjusting the two valves, the blower load can be increased gradually until the equipment adapts to the system operating condition.

Continue Until the Vent Valve Is Fully Closed

During the adjustment process, always monitor the motor current and blower operating condition. By coordinating the adjustment of the outlet valve and vent valve, gradually increase the blower load connected to the system until the vent valve is completely closed.

Finally, adjust the outlet valve according to the actual operating condition so that the motor current remains within the rated range. After confirming that the pressure, vibration, temperature, and other parameters are normal, the blower system connection procedure is complete.

Operating Precautions for Multistage Centrifugal Blowers

During startup, valve adjustments should be performed promptly and smoothly, and the blower should not remain under abnormal operating conditions for an extended period. Operators should pay particular attention to motor current, blower pressure, surge, vibration, and abnormal sounds.

It should be noted that this procedure is a simplified startup guide and does not replace the operating manual provided by the equipment manufacturer. Different models, pressure ratings, and system configurations of multistage centrifugal blowers may have different valve positions and operating requirements. Therefore, actual site operation should always follow the equipment manual and specific process requirements.
